Writer. Critic. General Misfit.
I connect with people through sharing experiences. As a kid, I wanted to be a writer. For years, I took classes, read books, studied treatments, and dreamt of a screenwriter’s life. The learned value for security and stability took the wheel. I abandoned my dream for years and built a good life but disconnected. No more!
That cartoon somewhere on this page is me. My late freedom-fighting grandfather used to say that all he wanted from us was “Bala manush bonoh” or to be a good person. If you don’t know anything about Asian elders, know this, they always have an opinion on your life and that shit matters. This man was imprisoned and his home bombed and all he wanted was for us to enjoy the freedom of being free. Our bloodline is strong and sometimes I need a reminder. Just wait until you hear about my septum-pierced, Golden Girls loving G-ma who ‘caught’ me with liquor and cigarettes. Or my beautiful mother, who recently passed, and her first fight in middle school.
My blog is a front-seat view on the road trip through my life and the lessons I’ve learned and am still learning. This is a humble and vulnerable journey into an ordinary life looking after aging parents, loss of a mother (my heart), career, script writing, friendships in your late-30s, dating, family dynamics, and my top five favorite things. Yup. As I said, I am figuring it out. Connect with me and share your stories on your investment in yourself to be the best version of a human. Let’s do it! To the future, fuckers.
