Preparing for my 40-day sadhana

Part of my yoga teacher training is to complete a 40-day sadhana. My in-person class portion is over and now I get to go through all the modules and poses analysis on my own. I didn’t set up that previous sentence to reflect my true feelings. I am looking forward to diving into the practice and learning more about poses and the philosophy of yoga.

I lost a bit of my passion for yoga during yoga teaching training. I can’t say why. It’s been about three months since it ended and I feel hopefully and ready to take steps towards my certification.

My first step is to complete a 40-day sadhana. Our sadhana is a minimum of 20 minutes per day dedicated to a combination of the following: breath practice, physical practice, meditation, and chanting. I can do one thing or all four or less than that and do it for a minimum of 20-minutes every day. Immediately after, I will complete a reflection journal entry after each session. Ta da! Hence the blog entries to come.  If I miss more than one day in the 40-days it is advised to start over. Discipline.

I will do my practice before bed and do the following: breath of fire for 3-minutes, meditation, and prayer. In lieu of chanting, I will perform salah and it will likely be Maghrib or Isha. Then I will brain dump my thoughts into an entry. I have some expectations on what I want to achieve in the 40 days. I won’t give it energy since I want to experience this and see what comes of it.

Here we go!
